A beautiful flowering tree, typically planted for its profusion of spring flowers. The Sweetbay Magnolia grows to a height of 20 feet and a spread of 10 feet to 20 feet at maturity. This tree grows at a medium to fast rate, with height increases of anywhere from 13 inches to more than 2 inches per year. It flowers late in the spring, avoiding much of the frost that can spoil a blooming tree’s beauty. It also attracts a wide variety of songbirds with its fall fruit. Full sun and partial shade are best for this tree, meaning it prefers a minimum of four hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight each day.
